As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Dakota increases, Governor Noem has asked all K-12 institutions and the four technical institute campuses to remain closed through at least Friday, May 1, 2020. Similarly, all the South Dakota public universities have announced they will be completing the remainder of their spring semester entirely online.
As a result of the Governor’s announcement, Southeast Tech is implementing the following:
- Close campus through at least May 1, 2020.
- Continue online/hybrid course delivery for lecture courses through the remainder of the semester.
- Deliver all lab-based courses online/hybrid at least through May 1, 2020.
- Clinicals, internships, and work-based experiences will continue where possible.
Online lab experiences may include video demonstrations, simulation software, video conferencing and other virtual tools.
Because program lab experiences vary greatly, it is not possible to provide details in this email as to how each program will meet this challenge. Therefore, it is vital for you to watch your Southeast Tech emails and view your courses on myTech frequently. Your instructors will provide you with more information on how your labs will progress.
Sadly, Southeast Tech will also be altering our graduation ceremony. With the City of Sioux Falls’ recent announcement limiting the size of any public gatherings in the City, we will need to adjust graduation as well. A survey to graduate candidates regarding the ceremony will be sent out later this week.
I know this is more difficult news, and I want you all to know these decisions were not made lightly. In the best interest of student and employee safety and health, we believe these are the right decisions.
Southeast Tech is committed to providing the best learning environment possible, even under these difficult circumstances. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to you and your success.
Please continue to work hard in your classes and stay safe and healthy!
