Bookkeeping

Online and On-Campus Diploma Program - 33 Credits

Today's bookkeepers are tasked with knowing how to use specialized accounting software, spreadsheets and databases for their organization's financial records. As a professional bookkeeper, you will use these computer systems to update statements, record transactions and ensure record accuracy. Your work could be wide-ranging or specialized.

Some organizations have a bookkeeper in charge of all of its accounts, called a general ledger. While other businesses might assign a clerk to a specific task, such as accounts receivable or accounts payable.

Other duties for you as a professional bookkeeper might include:

  • Producing reports
  • Reconciling discrepancies
  • Assigning debits/credits to correct accounts
  • Paying vendors
  • Billing
  • Helping with payroll

The career outlook in your field is stable. Employers are looking for professionals who show an ability to analyze and process daily business transactions.

Compare: Bookkeeper vs. Accountant

As a Bookkeeper, you are key to the daily financial records of your organization, and Southeast Tech’s program can fast-track you into the work force in just nine months. An Accountant, on the other hand, is tasked with issues that are more advisory and analytical. An accountant would be qualified to offer financial projections and advice on future financial issues in your company.
