Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Awarded Continuing Accreditation
Southeast Technical College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program, has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
To continue its accreditation, Southeast Tech’s DMS program underwent a peer review conducted by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors. The commission then voted to award continuing accreditation for another 10 years, which is the longest accreditation cycle CAAHEP awards.
“At Southeast Technical College, we strive to achieve the highest standards to deliver a thorough, quality education to our students,” said STC president Bob Griggs. “We are pleased that the commission has voted to continue our DMS accreditation.”
Meeting the workforce needs of the region is part of STC’s mission, and a quality DMS program is essential to fulling that demand.
“Diagnostic ultrasound is a fast-paced and dynamic medical profession. The demand for highly skilled sonographers is ongoing at Avera Health,” said Chris Carlson, Supervisor of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Avera McKennan Hospital. “Southeast Technical College has helped meet that demand by providing our market with educated, competent and well-prepared sonographers.”
Glen Mayhew, CAAHEP President, lauded Griggs and the STC faculty for their dedication to education in an award letter. “The commission commends you and your colleagues for your commitment to continuous quality improvement in education, as demonstrated by your participation in program accreditation.”
The CAAHEP’s next comprehensive evaluation of the program, including a site review, is scheduled to occur no later than 2031.
