Southeast Technical College Hosts MATHCOUNTS Competition

Southeast Technical College students and instructors recently hosted an engaging, challenging math competition for 6th-8th grade students. About 45 students from six schools ranging from Vermillion to Brookings participated, and some will continue to the state-level competition. The MATHCOUNTS competition series “builds problem-solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, in-person ‘bee’ style contests.”

Eyes were on Southeast Tech earlier this month when Rod Brietling, Land Surveying Science Instructor, spoke to industry and eight students were awarded scholarships at the South Dakota Society of Professional Land Surveyors (SDSPLS) annual convention. At the three-day virtual event, Brietling addressed the group Jan. 8, 2021, with the topic of "The Elusive Existent Corner." Addtionally, eight Southeast Tech land surveying students were awarded scholarships ranging from $500 to $4,000. There was $11,500 total dollars awarded.
