Careers in risk management, investing and insurance are financially rewarding and offer plenty of room for upward mobility. 

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the field is expected to grow much faster than average through 2028. 

In the Sioux Falls, South Dakota region, industry has a large, unmet need for employees and is looking to fill positions for highly qualified generalists and entry level staff. Workforce shortages, coupled with an aging insurance profession, has intensified this demand. 

Classes Your Way at Southeast Technical College

Students enrolled in the Risk and Investment Management diploma program at STC have the benefit of multiple course delivery options. 

Most Risk and Investment Management program courses and general education classes can be taken entirely online, or through a combination of online and on-campus classes. On-campus classes are held in the George S. Mickelson Center. For most courses, students can pick and choose what delivery options work best for each course based on their schedules and learning preferences.

Get to Work: Students will be prepared for roles as customer service representatives, insurance office assistants, account managers, personal line agents and claims adjusters in the insurance and investment industries. Local business are seeking highly qualified generalists and entry level staff to assist with meeting the needs of local businesses who are experiencing a shortage in the labor force.

Continue Your Education: A Risk Management diploma transfers directly into STC’s Business Administration associate degree program. If students choose to go this route, the first year of their two-year associate degree will already be complete!

Get a License: Obtaining a Risk Management diploma will qualify students to pursue a Life and Health Insurance license or a Property and Casualty Insurance license through the South Dakota Division of Insurance.
