Civil Engineering Technology Admission Criteria and Program Requirements
Admission Criteria
Specific requirements for admission may vary depending on which pathway a student pursues.
Associate Degree Option
At least one of the following:
- High School GPA: 2.5
- GED: Sub-scores ≥ 145
- College GPA: 2.0, based on 9+ credits
- ACT: 17, with 16+ math subscore
- SAT: 880, with 430+ math subscore
Associate Degree - SDSM&T Pathway Option
- High School GPA: 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
- Complete High School Coursework Requirements (listed below)
- Proof of College Algebra-Readiness by one of the Following Methods:
- ACT or SAT math sub-score of at least 20/520
- Completion of a college math course (Intermediate Algebra or higher)
- Qualifying score on the Accuplacer exam
OR, Are a South Dakota Regents’ Scholar.
High School Coursework Requirements
All degree-seeking applicants must complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade point average of a “C” or higher (2.0 on a 4.0 scale):
- English (one of the following)
- 4 years of English
- ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above
- AP English score of 3 or above
- Advanced Mathematics (one of the following)
- 3 years of Advanced Mathematics (includes algebra or any higher level of math)
- ACT Math sub-test score of 20 or above
- AP Calculus score of 3 or above
- Laboratory Science (one of the following)
- 3 years of Laboratory Science (includes biology, chemistry, physics, or other approved science courses in which there is a weekly lab period scheduled)
- ACT Science Reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above
- AP Science score of 3 or above
- Social Science (one of the following)
- 3 years of Social Science
- ACT Social Studies/Reading sub-test score of 17 or above
- AP Social Studies score of 3 or above
- Fine Arts (one of the following)
- 1 year of Fine Arts
- AP Fine Arts score of 3 or above
Additional Program Requirements
Required Supplies
The following required supplies can be purchased in the Southeast Tech Bookstore:
- HP 35s calculator
- Spiral survey notebook
- Engineering and architecture scales
- “T-41” symbol template,
- Engineering pad paper (green 5-square inch)
- Triangles for drawing (small 30/60)
- Protractor
- Pencils (mechanical, 0.5mm lead preferred)
