Early Childhood Program Donates 350 Children’s Books
Book Drive Part of Southeast Tech’s First Service To Community (STC) Day
Southeast Technical College’s Early Childhood Student Organization held a Children’s Book Drive as part of the Service To Community (STC) Day event that took place April 20, 2021.
The students were able to donate more than 350 books to the Children’s Inn, Ronald McDonald House and St. Francis House.
“In addition to having the opportunity to give back to the community, we also learned a lot,” said Loretta Leloux, Early Childhood instructor at Southeast Tech. “We had the privilege to take part in a couple of exceptional tours and gained a lot of new information on these organizations.”
Students began collecting new children’s books in early April at donation locations on campus and through an online book order. Then, on April 20, the books were delivered by Early Childhood students.
“It was a great day,” Leloux said. “It reinforced to us that early childhood is such a foundational field of study. With this in mind, the possibilities are endless for how our students can use their knowledge and passion in the community.”
