Veterinary Technician

Associate Degree Program - 65 Credits

Working under the supervision of licensed veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians perform tests and assist in diagnosing animal injuries and illnesses.Do you love caring for animals? Launch your career in just two years at STC. You could work in a private clinic doing diagnostic tests and talking with animal owners.

Your other duties might include: 

  • Giving medications, vaccines and treatments prescribed by a vet 
  • Taking X-rays and performing lab tests 
  • Restraining animals during exams 
  • Observing animal behavior 
  • Giving nursing care or first aid to animals

The career outlook in your field is strong. Employment of Vet Technicians is expected to grow 20% through 2026, which is much faster than average for all occupations. This program starts in fall 2020 (August). But get started early, you may be able to take General Education courses before your program start.

As a Veterinary Technician, you have the educational background to assist in surgery, take X-rays, and process tissue samples. A Veterinary Assistant is tasked with clerical and clinical duties, including scheduling appointments, billing customers, maintaining health records, sanitizing exam rooms and feeding animals.
