Does the medical world intrigue you? Are you ready to respond to a higher calling? At Southeast Tech, get to where you want to be in one year with a Pharmacy Technician diploma. As a Pharmacy Technician, you’ll supply medicines to patients, assemble medicines for prescriptions and provide information to patients and other healthcare professionals under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. You’ll learn how to take prescription orders and complete computer entry of these; select and count out medications; check for outdated drugs; operate a cash register; coordinate drug orders; fill unit dose packages; prepare IV bags with medication; prepare chemotherapy medications; and perform drug calculations all through intensive hands-on instruction.

Pharmacy technicians enjoy flexible schedules and hours. Most Southeast Tech students are hired before they graduate!

Southeast Tech's Pharmacy Technician program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASPH) and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). It is the only accredited program in the region.

Debborah Cummings, CPhT, BA

Debborah began teaching at Southeast Tech when the program first started in 2006. She holds CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) certification through the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
She has accrued extensive industry experience, having worked as:

• A pharmacy technician
• A pharmacy technician supervisor
• A director and instructor in pharmacy technician training programs, in Minnesota and South Dakota.

Debborah has conducted health fairs and grade school educational seminars. She was honored as the 2008 Pharmacy Technician of the year, from SDSHP (South Dakota Society of Health-System Pharmacists).

Regarding her teaching philosophy, she states, "I believe that it is a teacher's role to facilitate the learning and success of our students. I support and encourage students to reach their full potential.
"I believe that all students can be successful if they put forth the effort. My role is to be in partnership with my students with the ultimate goal being their success."

Working with students is the best part of her job as a Southeast Tech instructor. "I have been blessed to work with a variety of students of different ages, races, and nationalities," she says. "I learn so much from them and their experiences."

Debborah’s interests include reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
